India's brilliant performance with both bat and ball against Sri Lanka ensured a comprehensive 93-run victory for the hosts in the first T20 International at Cuttack on Wednesday.

This is India's biggest win in twenty20 internationals in terms of runs. Their previous best was the 90-run victory against England at Colombo in 2012. (Scorecard)

Earlier this year India had defeated England by 75 runs at the M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru which was their third biggest win while the 73-run victory over Australia in 2014 rounds off the top-four.

India have now defeated Sri Lanka 13 times in 2017 across formats which is the most by them against any opposition in a single year. They had beaten the same opposition 12 times across formats in 2009 and registered 12 wins over West Indies in 2011.

Yuzvendra Chahal, who was adjudged Man of the Match, finished with figures of 4 for 23 runs from four overs to become the highest wicket-taker in the format this year.

Chahal leads the pack with 19 dismissals followed by Afghanistan's Rashid Khan and Kesrick Williams from the West Indies, who are joint-second with 17 wickets.

India were put into bat at the Barabati stadium after Thisara Perera won the toss but the move backfired on the visitors as Rohit Sharma and Co managed to post a challenging 180 for 3 in 20 overs.

Opener KL Rahul (61) played sensibly at the top order before Mahendra Singh Dhoni (39 not out) and Manish Pandey (32 not out) finished off the proceedings in style.

From 112/3, Dhoni and Pandey built the innings and piloted India to a decent score. The duo added 68 runs off just 34 balls for the four wicket as India took the momentum going into the innings break.

Chahal and Jaydev Unadkat then started off with a terrific opening spell with the fast bowler getting the wicket of opener Niroshan Dickwella.

The wily leg-spinner then removed Upul Tharanga, Angelo Mathews, Asela Gunaratne and captain Thisara Perera to break the backbone of the Sri Lankan batting lineup. Hardik Pandya then got rid of the tail-enders with three wickets in quick succession to bring the proceedings to an end.

The second match of the three-T20I series will be played at the Holkar stadium in Indore on December 22nd.
